UNRWA was established in the wake of the 1948 Mideast war surrounding Israel's creation. An estimated 700,000 Palestinians fled or were forced from their homes in the fighting. In the absence of a solution for these refugees, the U.N. General Assembly has repeatedly renewed UNRWA's mandate, the original refugee camps have turned into concrete slums and more than 5 million refugees and their descendants now rely on the agency for services including education, health care and food.

Some initial reports suggested it might have been an assassination attempt.

Mr Alami, who was born in Gaza in 1956 and is also known as Abu Hamam, was one of the founders of Hamas.

In 2003, the US declared him a "specially designated global terrorist".

Is this the weirdest attempt at a shot you have ever seen? You certainly see some interesting shots during Twenty20 cricket, but none may be as weird as Rashid Khan's in Sunday nights BBL07 clash. Gaza: A senior Hamas figure was shot in the head in Gaza and hospitalised in critical condition on Tuesday, in what officials said was an accident . Hamas spokesman Fawzy Barhoum said Imad Al Alami, a former member of Hamas ’s highest political body

It identified him as a member of the Hamas political bureau based in the Syrian capital, Damascus, and said he had oversight responsibility for the group's military wing in Gaza and the West Bank.

Mr Alami also served for years as Hamas's main envoy to Iran, the group's main military and financial backer, according to the Times of Israel.

The newspaper says he left Damascus for Gaza in 2012 - a year after the start of the war in Syria, in which Hamas leaders expressed their support for forces fighting Iran's ally President Bashar al-Assad.

Mr Alani was then elected deputy leader in Gaza, a position he held until last year.

During that time he largely stayed out of the press but he is known to have taken part in talks over a ceasefire with Israel and the release of the captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, as well as efforts aimed at mending ties with Egypt and the other main Palestinian faction, Fatah.

In 2014, Mr Alami is reported to have suffered serious wounds to his leg, for which he had to undergo surgery in Turkey.

There were rumours that he was hurt in a clash between Hamas members, but the group insisted the wound was the result of an Israeli air strike during a conflict that year between Israel and militants in Gaza.

The First Standalone VR Headset From Google And Lenovo Is A Beauty .
Google, which has spent more than a year quietly improving its VR platform, Daydream, is now the first company to cross the standalone finish line. The Daydream-powered Lenovo Mirage Solo is a beauty. This the first Daydream device to have 6 degrees of freedom (DOF), which means you can squat, and jump, in addition to moving from side to side and backwards and forwards. The Daydream found on Android phones allows just 3 DOF. Yet as with other Daydream devices, the Mirage Solo uses inside out tracking, so you don't need sensors strewn about the room to track the headset's movement.
