Queensland's chief antagonists Josh McGuire and Will Chambers will have to find new ways to get under their opponents' skin if they are to upset the Blues in next Sunday's must-win Origin game.

Blues newcomer Jack de Belin says coach Brad Fittler showed his team clips of McGuire and other Maroons trying to "put players off their game" and stressed the importance of the Blues keeping their cool.

Chambers spent all night trying to rough up and verbally attack NSW rookie centre Latrell Mitchell, without any success.

And Maroons chief protagonist McGuire was up to his usual antics, niggling the Blues with his elbows and knees.

McGuire continued in the same vein on the weekend, being fined $1100 by the NRL for stomping on the hand of his former Queensland teammate Tim Glasby.

"We knew what to expect, we'd seen a lot of clips in the years gone by, players like Nate Myles and Josh McGuire, that's their role in the team, to put players off their game and ruffle a few feathers.

"The boys knew not to lose their heads, keep their cool and get on with the process.''

De Belin praised McGuire's physical effort, given he had not played for several weeks in the lead-up to game one.

He also gave Mitchell a rap for refusing to cave to Chambers who de Belin said ''has a lot of lip''.

"That's Will Chambers to a tea, he's a good niggler, he's always got a lot to say, but Latrell did a great job, he didn't let him get under his skin," de Belin said. "Will Chambers had his hands full."

De Belin, however, expects the Maroons to hit back hard in Sydney as they are all notorious for lifting when the odds are against them.

A win at ANZ Stadium will seal the series for NSW and leave the Maroons try to avoid an embarrassing whitewash at home on July 11 at Suncorp Stadium.

A number of Queensland forwards are facing the axe.

"Players who didn't perform up to standard [for Queensland] will have a point to prove,'' de Belin said.

"Every time they've been in the trenches before, or been doubted, they've come back with a bang and this game will be no different. They'll have a point to prove."

Meanwhile, de Belin hopes he will retain his starting spot ahead of Jake Trbojevic, the man he plays on Saturday when the Dragons host Manly at WIN Stadium.

"Jake is a good player, he's a toiler and works hard, and you know you'll never be let down by someone like him,'' de Belin said. "He's got a great connection with his brother [Tom], they play well together.

"I'd definitely like to retain the No.13 and feel I can start the game strongly and my defence be a big help to the side. I feel I can bring a lot of impact to the start and Jake can come on and do his thing.
