  McLaren fined as F1 pits woe mounts McLaren have become the latest team to be fined by F1's governing body for an unsafe release of their car from a pit stop. Amid mounting scrutiny over the sport's pit-stop procedures and safety measures after a Ferrari mechanic suffered a double leg fracture at the Bahrain GP, McLaren released Stoffel Vandoorne's car during Practice Two in China without its right-rear wheel properly attached.

Ferrari has been fined 50,000 euros after a mistake during a pitstop for Kimi Raikkonen left a mechanic in hospital with a broken leg. As he left the pit box he hit one of his mechanics which resulted in a nasty injury .

After the incident, Ferrari started an internal enquiry to find out why the pitstop system told Räikkönen to proceed when his old tyre had not been replaced. There has been a volley of criticism directed at Räikkönen for walking away from his car and not enquiring after the injured mechanic .

The governing FIA later fined Ferrari 50,000 euros (£43,275) for the incident.

"We have done our review, together with the FIA, I have to say, because they are caring about safety as we are caring about safety,” the Italian told reporters at Shanghai International Circuit ahead of Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix.

“We went through all the procedure ... and making sure that this thing doesn’t happen again.

“In this case, we have three factors - one involves human control, the other involves mechanical and the other involves (an) electronic device,” said Arrivabene explaining what went wrong.

“What’s happened there, we had a mishandling of the rear left, was not perfectly read by the electronic device that gives the green light.”

After having surgery in Bahrain, Cigarini had returned home, Arrivabene said.

“Of course, as team principal, I’m in contact with him,” he said. “He’s back to Italy, he’s at home and he’s okay.”
