The opening ceremony for the 2014 Commonwealth Games was held at Celtic Park in Glasgow, Scotland, between 21:00 and 23:40 BST, on 23 July 2014. The ceremony was directed by David Zolkwer and included the 2014 Commonwealth Games Parade of Nations where 71 athletes

An estimated 14,000 tickets to the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games opening ceremony have been sent to spectators displaying with the wrong day.

The Games kick off on April 4, which falls on a Wednesday, but the first batch of tickets have been issued to customers incorrectly showing the ceremony takes place on a Thursday.

Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) chief executive Mark Peters blamed the incorrect ticket printing on "human error" during the checking process at Ticketek's end.

Ticketek told Games' organisers about the error on Tuesday, but about 14,000 tickets had already been sent. © Toby Dawson - Facebook Ticketek told Games' organisers about the error on Tuesday, but about 14,000 tickets had already been sent. He emphasised the tickets were "totally valid", would not be reprinted due to the security information on them and was confident spectators would turn up on the right day.

Korean intruder ejected from Olympic opening ceremony

Korean intruder ejected from Olympic opening ceremony A Korean intruder was tackled by Olympic security and thrown out of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics opening ceremony after attempting to accost two performers, organisers said on Friday. The unwanted guest made a daring entrance, sliding down a long icy chute forming the backdrop to a stage to reach the performers before being wrestled out by security officials. The invasion came just after the two Koreas had marched into the stadium behind the blue-and-white unification flag, possibly indicating the stunt was politically motivated.Police were investigating the incident, but they said no arrests had been made.

The Opening Ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games was held on 15 March 2006 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The ceremony was conceived and produced by Jack Morton Worldwide

The remaining 21,000 opening ceremony tickets were believed to have been corrected because the error was detected "relatively early", but Mr Peters said he and Ticketek were "disappointed".

Toby Dawson, who called out GOLDOC on Facebook after noticing the error, said he initially thought he and his fiancee had made an error with their accommodation booking.

“My fiancé (sic) Emma and I received the tickets today (Tuesday) in the post and had to double check the calendar to make sure we hadn’t made a mistake with our accommodation booking," he said.

"I’m in a wheelchair so I needed to make sure the tickets were correct as there is limited accessible seating.”

Mr Peters said a preliminary check of remaining tickets had so far detected no more errors and he hoped the mistake would not be the memory customers took away from the Games.

"I hope they remember everything positive, not the fact that it's the wrong day on there," he said.

"(The tickets) might be worth a lot more on eBay in years to come."

More than 90 per cent of the total 1.2 million tickets being issued for the Games had been sent out by Tuesday, making it one of the biggest ticketed events in Australia's history.

Topless Tongan's secret weapon against freezing cold: coconut oil .
The Tongan flag-bearer's secret has been revealed: it was coconut oil that kept him warm when he paraded half-naked at the Winter Olympics opening ceremony. Pita Taufatofua braved bitter cold to go topless at the ceremony, where real-feel temperatures were down at minus 10 degrees Celsius (14 Fahrenheit). But while many wondered how he could march in only a traditional skirt and sandals without getting frostbite, the answer lies in the oil he had liberally applied to his torso.
