Inglis was forced to watch the 2017 season from the sidelines after rupturing his ACL in less than a half of NRL action, and new South Sydney coach Anthony Seibold is taking every precaution to avoid a repeat of that scenario.

The Rabbitohs have their first trial against Super League club Wigan on Saturday at ANZ Stadium, followed by their annual Charity Shield match with the Dragons at Mudgee on February 24.

‘’It’s going pretty well, we’ll just sit back and wait and see.

‘’I could be playing round three. When I’m ready to go we’ll have a chat to the coaching staff and supporting staff and go from there.’’

Inglis is yet to confirm what position he will be lining up in this season, revealing he has spent time at both fullback and centre, while even having a stint on the wing.

‘’I’ve jumped on the wing sometimes,’’ Inglis chuckled.

‘’We’re just tinkering around (still). We just need to figure out what is the best possible side and best combinations we can have within our side to take the field on the day.’’

There are concerns the representative star has lost the speed to keep up with the fast-paced nature of the fullback positon, as well as fears he is more at risk of hurting himself at the back through high-impact kick returns.

‘’You don’t feel it as much (at centre) but you’re running into 13 blokes (at fullback),’’ he said.

‘’It is a bit different but it’s all about getting the confidence back in.’’

No matter where he fills in, Inglis is just itching to be back out there.

‘’It’s just good being back, putting on the boots and running around with the boys,’’ Inglis said.

‘’I missed it extremely. It’s what I love doing, it was pretty much what I was born to do.’’
