AUSTRALIAN UFC champion Robert Whittaker has endured a nightmare first month of 2018 after being forced to bail out of UFC 221 in Perth with a myriad of gruesome illnesses.

Whittaker is suffering from several injuries; which he sustained recently.

The New Zealand-born fighter was scheduled to fight American Luke Rockhold, but instead has been replaced by the number one contender, Yoel Romero.

It will be the first time the UFC has staged an event in Western Australia, and Whittaker admits he is devastated not to be fighting on the card.

“I’m beyond disappointed that I’m unable to defend the title in my home country of Australia." he said.

"I hope the fans enjoy what should be a great night of fights at UFC 221 and I look forward to a recovery as soon as possible that will have me back in the Octagon to face the winner of the main event.”

Sydney Kings have continued their late-season NBL resurgence by walloping the Perth Wildcats 84-56.It was the Kings' second upset win over the two-time reigning champions within three days, and threw the fourth-placed Wildcats' sagging title defence into disarray.Import Perry Ellis (20 points) and Jason Cadee (15 points and six rebounds) were the best among an even swag of contributors for the Kings, who became more and more dominant as the match progressed.
