Mitch Marsh in the mix for Test recall

Mitch Marsh in the mix for Test recall Australia could add an allrounder to their XI as early as the third Test and don't be surprised if it's Mitch Marsh who is given the call-up. Australia's great allrounder debate is set to be reignited next week, with Mitch Marsh having resumed bowling after his shoulder reconstruction.National selectors named a 13-man squad for the first and second Ashes Tests and will be reluctant to change a winning side should Australia grab a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. But they will also be keen to give frontline pacemen Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins some form of respite during the remaining Tests.

Rodney Hogg is as confused as the rest of Australia at Mitchell Marsh 's potential Test recall . "He went away, flew up to Brisbane (as potential injury cover), comes back and makes 250 for Victoria. So he said to the selectors 'you've made a good decision to take me up there

Aussie selection punts paying off

Aussie selection punts paying off Australian cricket selectors could be excused for feeling smug as their Ashes gambles pay off. Maybe they're not morons after all.Australian cricket selectors could be excused for feeling smug. They were labelled idiots, confused and morons for their Ashes selections. But their punts are paying off.Shaun Marsh, in his eighth coming to the Test side, is making runs and appearing rock solid. So is Tim Paine, who wasn't even wicketkeeping for his state when named in Australia's team for the Test series against England. require(["inlineoutstreamAd", "c.

Rodney Hogg is as confused as the rest of Australia at Mitchell Marsh's potential Test recall. And he's letting everyone know about it.

On the back of some recent Sheffield Shield form for Western Australia - including a knock of 144 - Marsh has been drafted back into the squad ahead of the third Ashes Test in Perth.

Paceman Chadd Sayers was the unlucky one to drop out, but Hogg is furious that all-rounder Glenn Maxwell wasn't called in.

Maxwell has also enjoyed some stellar recent Shield form, scoring a double-century agianst New South Wales two weeks ago.

Speaking on SEN Radio, Hogg made the case for Maxwell's selection.

"It's a kick in the butt for Maxwell," Hogg said.

"He went away, flew up to Brisbane (as potential injury cover), comes back and makes 250 for Victoria. So he said to the selectors 'you've made a good decision to take me up there ... I'm now a very good first-class player'.

a person with hat © Provided by Sportal com au "[Marsh] has got a Test average of 21. He does not deserve the right to come in ... I can't believe that.

"He hasn't knocked the door down with the bat. He's played in five first class games and made over 45 twice."

Hogg said that Marsh's inclusion is good news from a bowling perspective, but remained adamant that he shouldn't bat higher than seven.

"He's not allowed to bat at six because of his average," Marsh said

"If he comes into the side, (Tim) Paine needs to come up to six and Cummins or Marsh at seven.

"He hasn’t knocked and said ‘I wasn’t good enough for those 21 Test matches, I’ve gone away and improved’. I don't think he has."

Australia takes a commanding 2-0 series lead into the third Test in Adelaide, which starts next Thursday.

Shaun's return surpassed mine: Mitch Marsh .
Mitch Marsh, thrilled with his maiden Test ton, is just as happy for brother Shaun, who had feared the end of his Test career but has bounced back in a big way.The younger Marsh will resume on 181 when play starts at the WACA on day four of the third Ashes Test, having demoralised England in an unbeaten 301-run stand with skipper Steve Smith.
