Former Kangaroo Gordon Tallis has heaped huge praise upon English star Sam Burgess ahead of the Rugby League World Cup final.

The once unstoppable Australian forward believes Burgess is not only the best English forward to play in the NRL but is up their with the greatest forwards regardless of nationality.

"He is one of the best forwards I have ever seen," Tallis said at a Rugby League World Cup final function in Brisbane.

"He is the best English forward that has come out here to play, I think he is absolutely outstanding."

The praise didn't stop there either with Tallis tipping Burgess and teammate James Graham to potentially overpower the Kangaroos forward pack in the final at Suncorp Stadium.

Australia back Beale praises Burgess and expects him to make difference for England. Australia are wary of the threat posed by cross-code star Sam Burgess . Burgess ' including in World Cup squad has polarised opinion in England.

"If he and James Graham can play the way they do in the NRL, if they can play with that intimidation and ferocity I don't think the Australian forward pack are as good as those guys," Tallis said.

"Australia have a great back row but if those two guys can light it up and play to the best of their ability I think they will give the Australian pack a real nightmare."

Set to captain the England side in place of the injured Sean O'Loughlin, Burgess has said if England were to win it will be O'Loughlin and not him that lifts the trophy.

They are however outsiders to pull off an upset with the Kangaroos triumphing over England 18-4 in the tournament opener over a month ago.
