Golden Globe winners who have gone on to win the Oscar

Golden Globe winners who have gone on to win the Oscar Though the voting process of The Golden Globes is very different from the one that chooses Academy Award winners, the lists of winners are often eerily similar. In 2017, Emma Stone, Casey Affleck, Viola Davis, animated film Zootopia and La La Land director Damien Chazelle all came out on the winning end of an award season pattern that has been predicting Oscar winners since the Golden Globes began in 1950. They all won the Golden Globe and Oscar that they were up for.

Hollywood’s biggest stars chose to step out in black outfits for the 2018 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night to keep the spotlight on the sexual harassment and assault scandals plaguing the film industry — but one actress went for a completely different look.

Blanca Blanco stirred headlines when she made her grand debut on the red carpet wearing a bright red gown with a thigh-high slit and a plunging neckline.

The 36-year-old told Fox News she didn’t mind skipping the suggested dress code.

“I love red,” she explained. “Wearing red does not mean I am against the movement. I applaud and stand by the courageous actresses that continue to break the cycle of abuse through their actions and fashion style choices. It is one of many factors leading women to a safer place because of their status. I am excited about the #TimesUp movement; true change is long overdue.”

However, the California-born talent is aware her latest style choice may garner criticism among women who may feel she should be taking a public stand against sexual abuse in Hollywood.

“It hurts my feelings, but I guess it's part of being in our industry,” said Blanco. “We have people who appreciate you and others that don’t. The designer Atria Couture did an amazing job with my dress and I appreciate them for dressing me.”

She added, “Shaming is part of the problem.”

The black ensembles worn by the stars coincide with the launch of the Time’s Up group, which has created a legal defense fund for both women and men who believe they’ve been discriminated against or harassed in the workplace.

More than 300 members of the entertainment business signed a “letter of solidarity,” resulting in a coalition aiming to combat harassment in the workplace “across all industries.”

Time’s Up has also backed the movement for women to wear black in solidarity with those who have been sexually harassed at the Golden Globe Awards.

Debra Messing, Justin Timberlake and Nick Jonas were a few of many celebrities who walked the red carpet wearing a Time’s Up pin in support of the cause.

Rose McGowan, who has accused disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein of rape, was not impressed with the all-black ensembles worn for the red carpet.

“And not one of those fancy people wearing black to honor our rapes would have lifted a finger had it not been so,” tweeted the 44-year-old at fellow activist Asia Argento. “I have no time for Hollywood fakery, but you I love, .@asiaargento #roseArmy.”

This hasn’t been the first time McGowan has been critical of Hollywood.

“Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black @GoldenGlobes in a silent protest,” McGowan tweeted back in December. “YOUR SILENCE is THE problem. You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy. Maybe you should all wear Marchesa,” the fashion line of Weinstein’s ex-wife Georgina Chapman.
