At the time, Streep—who worked with Weinstein on many films, including her Oscar-winning role in The Iron Lady—released a statement to The Huffington Post in which she called the alleged sexual harassment as "disgraceful," "inexcusable" and an "abuse of power," and added, "One thing can be clarified. Not everybody knew. Harvey supported the work fiercely, was exasperating but respectful with me in our working relationship, and with many others with whom he worked professionally. I didn't know about these other offences: I did not know about his financial settlements with actresses and colleagues; I did not know about his having meetings in his hotel room, his bathroom, or other inappropriate, coercive acts. And if everybody knew, I don't believe that all the investigative reporters in the entertainment and the hard news media would have neglected for decades to write about it."

As with many other actors in the running for more honours this coming awards season—something Streep is used to—the star of The Post has done many interviews that have continued to focus on the growing number of sexual harassment allegations that have tainted the entertainment industry.

In a recent interview with The New York Times, which also included her The Post co-star Tom Hanks, Streep was asked about the attention that had been placed on her to make statements about such accusations (none have involved her). "I know," she said. "I found out about this on a Friday and went home deep into my own life. And then somebody told me that on 'Morning Joe' they were screaming that I haven't responded yet. I don't have a Twitter thing or – handle, whatever. And I don't have Facebook. I really had to think. Because it really underlined my own sense of cluelessness, and also how evil, deeply evil, and duplicitous, a person he was, yet such a champion of really great work."

Speaking about calls to comment on the Harvey Weinstein allegations, Meryl Streep has called on Ivanka and Melania Trump to speak up. Meryl Streep , for better or worse (and it’s probably worse), has found herself largely the target of these accusations.

Streep then switched the focus to First Lady Melania Trump and First Daughter Ivanka Trump, since US President Donald Trump has also been accused of sexual misconduct by 20 women. "I don't want to hear about the silence of me," she said. "I want to hear about the silence of Melania Trump. I want to hear from her. She has so much that's valuable to say. And so does Ivanka. I want her to speak now."

"Well, honestly for me in terms of Harvey, I really didn't know. I did think he was having girlfriends. But when I heard rumours about actresses, I thought that that was a way of denigrating the actress and her ability to get the job. That really raised my hackles. I didn't know that he was in any way abusing people. He never asked me to a hotel room. I don't know how his life was conducted without people intimately knowing about it."

The Tragic Event in Meryl Streep's Life That Led to Her Happily Ever After With Don Gummer .
Meryl Streep and Don Gummer have one of the most inspiring marriages in Hollywood, and the story of how they met is no different. Their meeting in 1978 was actually a result of a tragic event in Meryl's life — her partner, Godfather actor John Cazale, had just died of bone cancer. Don, who is a sculptor, was a friend of Meryl's brother, Harry, and arrived in NYC with him to help her move out of the loft she shared with John. Although sparks didn't initially fly between them, Don invited her to move into his vacant apartment while he travelled and they corresponded through letters.
