About 14,000 tickets have been issued with "Thursday 4 April" printed on them, however, the correct day is Wednesday.

Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) chief executive Mark Peters said printing glitches were common for large events, but ultimately it was a "human error" made by ticket issuer Ticketek.

"This is one of the world's best ticket companies … they are gutted and we are that this error was made," he said.

Japan faces water quality issues ahead of 2020 Olympic Games The sporting world's attention may on the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, but next door in Japan construction costs are soaring and water quality problems are causing headaches for organisers of the 2020 Games. The price tag has almost doubled from the original bid — to about $16 billion — and the Tokyo Government has warned of even more costs associated with the Games.Several venues have been hit by water quality issues, with E. coli bacteria levels at the sprint canoe and rowing venue this week revealed to be 20 times higher than Olympic guidelines.

Commonwealth Games organisers sell tickets with the wrong date0:30. Last month, organisers admitted they had approved the release of 14 , 000 opening ceremony tickets with the wrong day printed on them.

It was not the first printing error, three events had also been printed with incorrect times, but have since been fixed.

"There were some overprinting in weightlifting, triathlon and table tennis … so they got in contact with everyone straight away, resent tickets and it was just part of their business as usual," Mr Peters said.

However, he said they would not be reissuing the opening ceremony tickets.

"This one with 14,000 is a little larger, and obviously that's why we've paid a lot of attention to making sure we're communicating with everyone about it," he said.

Emails have already been sent out to some ticket holders explaining the mistake.
