Curtis Pitt will be the speaker for the 56th Queensland Parliament.

The LNP opposition nominated long time Caloundra MP Mark McArdle but Mr Pitt was voted in after a short debate.

His nomination was supported by Robbie Katter.

Katter’s Australian Party has three members forming part of the cross bench in the current government. Their support on the floor could help bolster the government's majority.
