About 9.45pm on Saturday police discovered the man swimming at Cockle Bay, and had to pull him from the water when he ignored their instructions to leave the water.

The 37-year-old man was charged with swim or paddle in waters of Cockle Bay without authority, obstructing or failing to obey directions of rangers or staff, resist or hinder police in the execution of their duty, and offensive conduct.

Sydney City Duty Officer Inspector John Bamford reminded the community that is unsafe to enter the water in Darling Harbour.

"Swimming in Darling Harbour puts you at risk of oncoming boats and vessels and sharks in the water," he said.

Hero leaps into Yarra Rivers to rescue another man .
A man in Melbourne has pulled off a daring rescue after leaping into the Yarra River to pull another man to safety overnight. Police were called to Harbour Esplanade at Docklands at 9.20pm following reports of a man in the water.Without a thought for his own safety the hero, aged in his 20s, jumped into the water to try and assist the man.The hero came into trouble himself shortly after and the two men were pulled from the water by emergency services.A man in his late 50s was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital and remains in a stable but serious condition. He is suspected to have suffered a heart attack.
